Glenroy Street, Roath

Sash Window Preservation

This Victorian terraced house was restored and renovated by a local artist, who contacted LM Conservation to enquire if the original period sash windows could be saved. The initial site assessment indicated that the windows were of sufficient quality, in terms of timber and design, and preservation works were agreed on for all the original windows.

The sashes were removed to the workshop for repair and restoration/refurbishment and brought back to the property, re-gazed and fully primed, ready for painting. The frames were repaired on site, with most of the external sills having to be replicated and replaced. The sashes were re-fitted and new part and staff beading complete with draught proofing. Finally, the gaps between the frames and stonework were packed with organic hessian and sealed with sand-burnt mastic.
