Sash Window Preservation

This beautiful three storey Victorian Town House is situated within the conservation area of Cathedral Road. The majority of the repair work needed was to the box sash frames. This involved repairs to the lower portions of the sash runners (vertical side components of the frames) and the external sills, which had to be fully replicated and replaced. The sashes themselves were in remarkably good condition. They had lost some of their character due to decades of paint build up, which had obscured some of the finer joinery detail on the exquisite and delicately designed glazing bars. What original historic glass that remained was removed, cleaned and preserved. The years of paint were carefully stripped back and the sashes were re-glazed with the reclaimed original glass and new heritage glass where necessary. The sashes and frames were primed and the windows re-installed.
