Staircase Investigation

In 2020 LM Conservation was approached by The National Trust to aid in investigative works at Dyffryn House. A small but noticeable gap had opened on the bottom tread of the main staircase. This subtle opening was regarded as a sign indicating that potentially greater movement was occurring. Lazron Matia was asked to assist in the investigation by carefully dismantling part of the lower portion of the staircase to allow access to the structural engineers.

The investigation revealed that the staircase had potentially been relocated at some point in the past and had not been properly secured. Lazron Matia rectified this by fixing the staircase to the supporting floor joists, using a combination of timber and metal fixings as advised by the structural engineers. The staircase was then carefully reassembled with all its original decorative details intact.
